MAKE YOUR OWN KITS
Updated 17th Dec, 3pm
Fancy having a go at some Log Art yourself? These kits include everything you need to create your own designs. The video tutorial and instruction leaflet may reference Christmas Tree designs, but you can make any design (heart, star etc) you like - the process for making them is the same.
Each kit, supplied in its own box, contains the following:
- A backboard (treated and oiled)
- A tree trunk (tied for packing)
- A bag of treated logs
- A pot of Gorilla wood glue with glue sticks
- Fairy lights with batteries
- A #MadeByMe card
- Instruction leaflet
- Customisable when ordering - A bag of decorations
- Customisable when ordering - drink and treat
You'll need to add:
- a tray
- a pair of scissors / small blunt knife
- some paper
These kits are great for Adults and Kids alike (adult supervision required). If ordered directly from me, they can customised based on the colour of the backboard, the type and colour of the lights, and the types of decorations.
Not sure what you'd make? Check out the gallery of pieces below. Lost your instruction leaflet? That's covered here too!
Available Stock
These kits are really heavy, so if you're local (up to 20 miles from GL50, or in Chelt / Glos / Forest of Dean) I will hand deliver where possible. Can also be posted, but it's around £6 for a delivery.
Step 1 - Pick your size, large or small?
Step 2 - pick your box number, the labels tell you the colour of the backboard, types of lights and shape of tree trunk
Step 3 - drop me an email letting me know the number and I'll confirm if it's still available. Let me know what treat and drink you'd like, and what kind of decorations and I can make up the box for you.

INSTRUCTIONS
step 1
Check you've got everything in your kit.
- A backboard (treated and oiled)
- A tree trunk (tied for packing)
- A pot of Gorilla wood glue with glue sticks
- A bag of treated logs
- Fairy lights with batteries
- A bag of decorations
- A #MadeByMe card
- Instruction leaflet
You'll need to add:
- a tray
- a pair of scissors / small blunt knife
- some paper
step 2

Turn your board over to check the orientation. The hanger can be moved if required. Your light pack will held in place by the elastic band (we'll do this later).
Tip the logs out onto a tray so you can see what you've got to work with, and if there are any in particular that catch your eye.
step 3

Once you're ready, start laying out your pattern on your board.
Try and use larger logs over the gaps in the board, as this will help when it comes to gluing.
Check what type of lights you have - if you're using beads you'll need to leave larger gaps between the logs to allow for these. Don't start gluing anything just yet!
step 4

You may find some logs have dried with frayed edges. These will make it harder to glue, so trim them off with scissors if needed.
Once you're happy with the layout of your piece, you can start gluing. Pop a piece of paper underneath your board before you start to catch any drips between the slats.

Be careful not to get the glue on clothes as it's very difficult to remove!
Start gluing the logs, working your way across from one side to the other or from top to bottom, to make sure you don't miss any. Pick up and glue one log at a time so ensure you don't lose your design - a pair of tweezers or small pliers may be handy at this point to move the smaller logs.
When you think you've finished, gently flip/toss your board like a pancake (but not too hard) to see if any logs still move. Once everything is secure, leave the board to dry for at least 6 hrs.
step 5

Check the batteries in your light pack (they may need turning around). Turn your lights on. Unravel the wire, and pop the battery pack into the elastic. Thread the end of the wire through from the back of the board to the front inbetween one of the slats.

If you're using a beaded light string, you may need to unscrew some of the back supports to feed it through (covered on video tutorial)
Once you've fed all the wire through to the front, lay all of the lights on top of the log art in a rough pile,. This way you can get a feel for the number of lightbulbs and overall length of wire against the size of your piece. Then, start wrapping the wire around the logs.

If you've glued your logs close together, you may need to use a small knife to create a gap between them. A small pair of closed scissors are useful for holding the wire down as you bend it around.
When you get to the end of the wire, make sure it is securely tucked in so it doesn't get caught on anything. You're now ready to proudly display your Log Art!

step 6
Your Log Art is best kept in a warm and dry environment, so it's not suitable for outdoors. Avoid storing it in a cold attic as this will likely encourage damp to grow on the wood.
Lights and decorations

Check what's in your decorations bag. These can be quite fiddly to use, so you'll need some patience! You can also add your own alternatives. If using the fabric stars, attach these with superglue (not included).
There are various styles of lights, and you can also use your own.
- Warm / Ice white, silver wire
- Multi Coloured, silver wire
- Warm white with beads
- Warm white Copper wire
If you have beads on your lights but don't want them, just find the end and unwrap them! Want beads on your lights? Just twist the set of beads from your decoration bag (if requested / included) around your light string (the wire of the lights helps to hold them in place). Or, add them as a separate string of decoration afterwards.
When you come to wrap your lights around the logs, the beads may not be in quite the right place. With a little bit of force, you can slide the beads along the string to help make room.
